Welcome to the Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship

A message from Syed Akbarullah, MD, Program Director

Welcome to the Valley Hospital Medical Center (VHMC) Pulmonary/Critical Care (Pulm/CC) Fellowship Program.

The Pulm/CC Fellowship Program is a three-year fellowship designed to prepare physicians to practice the subspecialty of Pulmonary/Critical Care medicine. The Fellowship is ACGME accredited and follows the requirements set forth by ACGME. Two fellows are admitted to the program each year for a total of six fellows.

Fellows will assume increasing responsibility in procedures and patient care during the training continuum at VHMC and Pulmonary Associates. Inpatient rotations occur at VHMC and continuity clinic rotations occur at Pulmonary Associates, a high-volume specialty practice with offices located throughout Las Vegas and Henderson. VHMC has excellent patient volume and scope, and provides a superior environment for training in diagnosis and management of complex and common disease processes in a wide variety of patients.

Fellows will have the opportunity to develop their patient panels and follow these patients throughout their training. They will also have the opportunity to train at an advanced sleep diagnostic and treatment facility where they will treat patients who have varying degrees of sleep disorders.

As Program Director, I work cohesively with core clinical faculty to structure an evidence-based comprehensive curriculum to facilitate competency in the Pulm/CC field. Our program is built on teamwork, respect, and uncompromising dedication to our patients.

Graduates of the VHMC Pulm/CC Fellowship Program will be prepared to practice independently at the completion of their training. We welcome you to our program and look forward to helping you achieve your goals as you embark on your medical career in the Pulmonary/Critical Care field.
