Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education
Valley Hospital Medical Center offers American Osteopathic Association (AOA)–approved osteopathic graduate medical education programs that cover total healthcare for individuals and their familes. Patients come to Valley Hospital from urban, suburban, rural and international settings, providing a wide variety of learning opportunities, as well as challenging opportunites for diverse patient care experiences.
Offered in partnership with Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine (TUNCOM), the programs offer the advantages of a large healthcare delivery system and a vibrant academic setting. The program is led by C. Dean Milne, DO, FACOI, FACP, Director of Medical Education. Valley Hospital Medical Center is owned by a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, inc. (UHS), and is the largest of the company's five hospitals in the Las Vegas Valley. All internship and residency programs are approved by the AOA Division of Postdoctoral Training, and residency programs meet the requirements for specialty board certification.
Applicants are selected on the basis of academic performance, and personal qualifications regardless of race, sex, color, religion or national origin.
The 320-bed hospital is located in the heart of Las Vegas, and has a 54-bed Emergency Department that treated over 40,000 patients in 2012. The hospital's maternity services delivered approximately 2,400 babies in 2012 and almost 15,000 patients were admitted. The medical staff represents more than 60 specialties and subspecialties. Some of the specialty programs offered at Valley Hospital are:
- Primary Stroke Center
- Chest Pain Center accredited with PCI (committed to Door 2 Balloon in 90 minutes or less)
- Accredited Heart Failure Center
- Advanced cardiovascular services, including open heart surgery, cardiac catheterizations, peripheral vascular studies and pacemaker and defibrillator implants
- Advanced neurological services including interventional radiology procedures
- Comprehensive maternity services including maternal triage, antepartum unit, labor-delivery-reovery, post-partum care and education and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit
- Surgical specialties include orthopedics, open heart, urology, gynecology and general surgery
- Wound Healing Center & Hyperbaric Chamber
