Everything You & Your Baby Need – All Under One Roof
Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your baby! Southern Nevada mothers find peace of mind knowing that multiple levels of care are available at Valley Hospital. Even if you do not expect complications, many parents and physicians prefer to deliver their babies at a hospital with a full complement of high-risk services, including Level II and Level III neonatal intensive care unit for babies who aren’t quite ready to go home immediately after birth.
We offer some of the region’s most advanced technologies and services for mothers and infants, including:
- A maternal triage unit for evaluation and treatment
- An antepartum unit to monitor pregnancy-related complications
- Ten labor-delivery-recovery rooms
- Two operating rooms located seconds away from the birthing rooms
- Normal, intermediate and high-risk infant nurseries
- Dedicated infant-transport ambulance for infant transfers between hospitals.
Preparing for Your Birth
Our Cradle Corner childbirth education department offers a variety of classes to parents-to-be, including prepared childbirth education, breastfeeding education, baby care basics and tours of our maternity unit. To register for any classes, call (702) 388-4888, our physician referral and class registration line.
Ensuring Prenatal Care for All Babies
Our Babies Are Beautiful program enables expectant mothers without maternity health insurance coverage to access important educational, financial and medical resources and the comfort in knowing you are already pre-admitted to Valley Hospital. These benefits include finding a private physician, assistance filing for financial assistance, free prenatal education classes and discounts for labwork and ultrasounds. For more information, call our Babies Are Beautiful coordinator at (702) 671-8501.
Preregistering for Your Hospital Stay
As your due date approaches, don’t forget to preregister for your upcoming visit! Please feel free to register any time before your due date (we recommend at least 30 days before you’re due). We offer several ways to do this: in person at Valley Hospital, over the telephone by calling (702) 671-8695 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or online by accessing REGIE.
You will still need to stop by the Admitting department to make copies of your photo identification and insurance cards, sign any necessary forms and pay for any deductibles, co-payments or other out-of-pocket expenses. If you are responsible for your own payments, please be sure to follow your pre-arranged agreement.
Specializing in High-Risk Pregnancies, Deliveries & Infant Care
Whether you are a high-risk or low-risk pregnancy, you can feel confident knowing that Valley Hospital specializes in caring for high-risk moms and babies. Our tiniest patients receive premium care in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A neonatalogist is in-house around the clock and our own specialized nursing staff provides high-tech, soft-touch care in a soothing environment. We have liberal visiting hours for parents and grandparents, and two separate rooms for private consultations, naps and relaxation activities.
Featuring Innovative Care Techniques in Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Valley Hospital offers “kangaroo care,” an innovative method of infant care using techniques pioneered by leading neonatal centers. If your baby does require a stay in our NICU, we’ll encourage your active participation in his or her development by encouraging skin-to-skin contact and rocking chair time, breastfeeding, and other parent/baby related interactions. We also keep the lights dimmed in the unit, use quiet voices, dress your baby in preemie clothing and encourage parents to bring colorful blankets and pictures from home to decorate the baby’s layette.
Offering Quality Care is a Labor of Love
Parents choosing to deliver at Valley Hospital appreciate our family-centered approach to maternity care, allowing their birth experience to be as private or family-oriented as they like. Should any complications occur during birth, we have two operating rooms that are immediately accessible from any labor-delivery-recovery room.
We strongly encourage you to discuss any birthing preferences with your physician before you deliver your baby.
Helping a New Family Begin
After you’ve been relocated to a post-partum room, you may choose to allow us to care for your newborn in our full-service nursery, or “room-in” with your little one. Whatever your choice, we’ll do our best to make sure you and your family (including siblings of any age) feel at home.
Other special highlights of our unit include:
- Flexible feeding depending upon your baby's needs
- Breastfeeding support
- Personal instruction on your baby's care
- Special arrangements to maximize contact with your baby should he or she require intensive care at the hospital
Keeping In Touch After You Leave
If your baby stayed in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, please make sure we have your current address so we may send you an invitation to our NICU reunion. Call (702) 388-4663 to update your information.
