Valley Hospital Medical Center has a strong committment to training primary care physicians in Internal Medicine. Fellowships in various specialites are being planned for the future. Interns accepted into the three-year Internal Medicine Residency will follow the Internal Medicine specialty track. The curriculum will include participation in each of the services listed below for the minimum time specified. VHMC adheres to the program requirements of the AOA. Osteopathic principles and practices will be incorporated into the curriculum in each department. The continuity ambulatory care experience will be satisfied by attending internal medicine clinic one-half day per week during the first year. The medicine continuity clinic is located on campus and incorporates some subspecialty clinics.
The Internal Medicine program has graduates going into Fellowships, private practice and military service.
Some variation is possible within the AOA guidelines and rotations may occasionally change. These are the rotation schedules currently being used. Rotations are one (1) month each.
Internal Medicine – OGME 1
- Internal Medicine – 4months (1 will be night rotation)
- Critical Care – 1 month
- Pulmonary – 1 month
- Cardiology – 1 month
- Emergency Medicine – 1 month
- Radiology – 1 month
- Women's Health – 1 month
- Surgery – 1 month (Pre and Post operative care of CVT patients)
- Neurology – 1 month
- Clinic – One half day per week
Internal Medicine – OGME 2
- Internal Medicine – 5 months (1 will be night rotation)
- Critical Care – 1 month
- Cardiology – 1 month
- Infectious Disease – 1 month
- Hematology / Oncology – 1 month
- Gastroenterology – 1 month
- Nephrology – 1 month
- Elective – 1 month
- Clinic – Two half days a week
Internal Medicine – OGME 3
- Internal Medicine – 4 months (1 will be night rotation)
- Clinic – 1 month
- Endocrinology – 1 month
- Rheumatology – 1 month
- Wound Care – 1 month
- Critical Care – 1 month
- Geriatrics - 1 month
- Electives – 2 months
- Clinic – Two half days a week
